I firstly would like to thank my Executive Committee and Christa for their generous support over the past year.

Looking back over the past year there has been a great down turn in the Industry in fact in all areas, including the Engineering Sector.

As in the past most of the work has been done by Sub-Contractors, appointed by the main Contractor, mostly from beyond the Northern Cape borders.

No significant contracts are currently on the cards except for the S.P.U ongoing contracts. From now on until the end of the year there are nothing to look forward to as there is no contracts for infra structure by Government or the Municipality in the pipe line.

The implementation of the minimum wages had no great effect on the Industry, as most of our Members were paying their employees above the rate, before the Implementation took place.

With regard to the M B A Northern Cape we are holding head above water, even though Membership is in see-saw position. New applications has been turned down due to criteria not met, meaning that they have no back ground of the Industry, it only could place the MBA in a negative light.

Training is a major problem, although members are requesting why nothing has been done towards this problem. There are no projects where the trainees could be placed as there is no major projects taking place in the Northern Cape.

Lastly I would like to thank all Members active and non- active for upholding this Association.

I could only hope that the future becomes brighter for all parties involved in the Industry.
